Unconference

This will be the third year for our unconference, you won't want to miss it! You never know what comes out of an unconference discussion.

What is an unconference?

Imagine our unconference as a room full of Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions with topics offered up and the schedule built on the fly. The schedule is selected and organized by the people who are there! If you’re unfamiliar with the unconference format, read about organizing and attending.

How does it work?

Everyone is encouraged to offer a topic; something you want to learn about, better understand, share, or collaborate on an idea important to you at that moment.

All topics are valid and all the unconference attendees will select and help organize the discussions of the day. We'll spend about 30 minutes brainstorming ideas, and breaking into smaller groups to engage in discussions. At the end of each session, attendees will be encouraged to present short summaries of their discussions.

When the unconference part of the day happens, we will follow the "rules" of an unconference:

  • Whoever shows up are the right people
  • Whatever the results of a session were what was supposed to be
  • Whenever it starts is the right time
  • It is over when it’s over

Participants should use the "law of two feet" to leave any session if they aren't contributing something positive, getting something out of a session, or feel another session would be more to their liking.

Due to the interactive nature of the unconference, we are only able to facilitate in-person participation.
